OK, so maybe Rutgers stomped on your Rutgers spirit and pride at the beginning of the year with their initial loses and horrible playing. But did you know we have won 3 straight and are in the running for a bowl game!! Look at the schedule below, and notice how Rutgers has come back to play and WIN some great games. Now is the time to break out the Rutgers gear and show your support.

On Saturday, the Scarlet Knights will play South Florida in Tampa as the Knights look for their 4th straight win. Rutgers looks to extend the longest current winning streak in the BIG EAST as the Scarlet Knights (4-5 overall, 3-2 in the BIG EAST conference) face USF (6-3 overall, 1-3 in the conference) . The Knights had a 30-27 victory over USF in 2007 and a 22-20 victory in 2006. RU leads 2-1 all-time against USF.

Rutgers sophomore running back Kordell Young (West Deptford, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Monday by the league office after totaling 170 yards of total offense in the victory over Syracuse. Last week quarterback Teel was named Big East's offensive player of the week for the victory over then #17 ranked Pittsburg (not ranked any more after we beat them).

There are only 3 more games left! Nov 15th and 22and are again at 9:00am (I know, so darn early). LAST GAME IS ON THURSDAY DEC 4 AT 4:30 PM. MAKE SURE TO MAKE IT OUT TO AT LEAST ONE MORE GAME.

Rutgers Alumnus is Producing Director at Scripps Ranch Theatre

Here's a message from Allan Salkin. We encourage all members of the Rutgers Club of San Diego to support the show! See you there!
*****

Fellow R.U. Folks:

If, perchance, you're looking for something interesting and fun to do on the next two weekends (except for this Saturday evening, of course, for those attending the Mets-Padres game), you will not find a better, more fun local theatre production than the musical, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," which we have running at Scripps Ranch Theatre (where I'm now called "Producing Director). It's been running since May 9, and I should have told you about it before this. Audiences are loving it.

If you want more info, you can find it at http://www.scrippsranchtheatre.org/. Tickets are $19 ($17 for seniors), and it's the best theatrical bang for the buck you'll find anywhere. (Box office can be reached at 858/578-7728.) There are only six performances left, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m.this w/e (6/6-7) and a. 2 p.m. matinée Sunday. Next weekend there are the same Fri/Sat performances, but also a 4.p.m. matinée on Saturday. (You can take in the show and then go out to dinner!)

I guarantee you'll be very entertained if you get to see it.

If you have any questions, feel free to call me.

Best,

-- Allan Salkin

Professional Resource Group is Forming, from Rutgers Club of San Diego

Rutgers Club of San Diego
I had the pleasure of meeting five of our fellow alumni in person at our January meeting; I know we had about eight other alumni join us via teleconference. Through our meeting we were able to make some key decisions. I would like to share those with you and summarize what was discussed.
First, there was a common understanding that real networking is about finding ways to make other people successful. It is about working hard to give more than you get. Our expectations, of not only today's meeting, but also the group as a whole, is to ensure that this is the one monthly event where we can offer real solutions to other Rutgers professionals in the San Diego area. As a result of this conversation, our group name and focus has shifted.

Rutgers Club of San Diego Wins Award!

Your club has done it again! Brian and Carlos attended the Leaders' Conference in New Brunswick in October 2007. There they were handed the award for The Most Improved Rutgers Club. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this possible.

Recent Events

In August 2007, the Rutgers Club of San Diego published the Alumni Business Networking Directory. The Directory provides Rutgers alumni in the area with an opportunity to find trusted service providers who are also Rutgers alumni. In addition, the Directory serves as an incentive for business-oriented Rutgers alumni to re-acquaint themselves with the new Rutgers Club and to participate actively in the Club's activities. It costs nothing for Rutgers alumni to be listed in the Directory. It's a win-win for everyone!

To download a free copy of the directory, please visit http://rutgersclubsd.googlepages.com/RutgersClubAlumniBusinessDirectory20.pdf. The next edition of the directory will be published in March 2008, so please submit your information today. If you are interested, please complete the form found in the Directory, or contact Dan Roberts, danjr69 at hotmail.com or Carlos Dequina, carlosdequina at alumni.rutgers.edu.

Last year our annual dinner, on March 24th, was well attended with over 50 longtime members and many recent grads. Our new co-presidents, Brian Wennersten and Carlos Dequina, outlined an ambitious set of plans for the club.

July 16th saw our annual Padres-Mets baseball outing and tailgate party. On August 19th, we had our usual summer picnic at Mission Bay with the Ottey family coordinating another fantastic picnic.

From August 30th through January 5th, it was one continuous party at Typhoons, watching the football team wrap up another winning season and finally winning the International Bowl game. If you have not been to one of the game watching events, you have really missed out on a good time; young and old alike really make this a fun back to college experience. It will not be long before we start it all over again, make sure you get in on next seasons fun! With the big R flag flying outside Typhoons, it is an easy spot to find in Pacific Beach.

Then we wrapped up the yearly events with a fantastic theatre outing put together by Giulia.

"Oh, What a Night": On November 6, twenty-three San Diego Rutgers Alumni Club members and friends ventured downtown to see the traveling production of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical, Jersey Boys. For those of you who haven’t heard (and how could you possibly not have heard yet?!), Jersey Boys, which originally debuted at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2004 before opening on Broadway, celebrates the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Who knew that Joe Pesci (or, as he was affectionately referred to, "little Joey Fishes") played such a big part in bringing the Four Seasons together? In two and a half hours, Jersey Boys took us on a journey through 40 years of friendships, rivalries, marriages, break-ups and, oh yes—incredible music.

Future Events

Ready, set... GO! Our Business Networking Team has been busy during the winter break building the spirit of community among business-oriented Rutgers alumni in San Diego. Dust off your Rolodexes! Our monthly networking events will provide our alumni with twelve low-pressure, high-quality opportunities in 2008 to help each other professionally, and to expand their circles of influence. If you are interested, please contact Dan Roberts, danjr69 at hotmail.com.

In addition to monthly Business Networking events, the Rutgers Club of San Diego has also initiated the San Diego Mentorship Program. Recent polls show that today's professionals expect to change their careers several times during their lives, and will change employers every 3-8 years.

The concept behind the San Diego Mentorship Program is to provide young alumni and career changers of all ages the benefits of the collective wisdom and experiences of other Rutgers alumni who have worked in similar careers. Professional guidance that experienced alumni Mentors can offer to Mentees include: one-on-one discussions about first-hand experiences of what it's like to work in a certain company or organization, what skills are in high demand in a certain geographic region, or what professional credentials are beneficial to have in certain careers. We encourage all interested alumni with all levels of experience to participate in this community-building effort. Please contact Carlos Dequina at carlosdequina [at]alumni.rutgers.edu or Erik Kudrna at erikkudrna [at] gmail.com to sign up as a Mentor or a Mentee.

Our Annual baseball event will be on June 6th, with the Padres taking on the NY Mets. We will have our annual tailgate party on San Diego Bay at the Embarcadero east park, then an easy walk over to the beautiful Petco Park stadium. We have great Toyota Terrace seats on a Saturday night with 51 tickets sold and only 5 tickets left. If you are interested, please contact koczela [at] hotmail.com.

Summer will once again bring us together for a fun time on beautiful Mission Bay for our annual picnic. The it’s time for autumn and the fun gatherings for football watching at Typhoons in pacific Beach – look for that big red R flag flying.

More exciting events are planned for 2008! Details will be forthcoming on this website and through our email message board. Don't miss another announcement, automatically receive email notification of club events: Sign Up for Our Club's Email List here!

We encourage you to initiate a community event or an activity that you are passionate about. Whether your passion is ballroom dancing, foreign films, wine tasting or snowboarding, we want to hear from you! If you would like to organize an event with the Rutgers Club of San Diego, please contact Carlos or Brian.

Dues

Our fiscal year follows the university, which is July 1st to June 30th. Have you paid your annual dues for this year (7/1/07 – 6/30/08)? We need your support. We are a non-profit, volunteer organization and depend entirely on local alumni dues of only $15 per year to cover all club expenses. Recent Grads special (Class of 2000 through 2007): dues are only $5 (included in dinner). If you are not sure your dues are current, contact koczela [at] hotmail.com.
